Slovenia can probably boast some of the best Fly Fishing in Europe… so why not give it a try and decide for yourself!!! There is Lake and River Fishing for Rainbow, Brown, Brook and the rare Marble Trout. In the winter, the monstrous Sulec/Hucho (land locked salmon) are prime targets. All of the fishing takes place in waters which are so clear, you can see the fish elude you or be outwitted by you in front of your eyes! Pools can really team with fish. You always need a permit for where you are fishing, but no “licence” as such. You can buy permits from many Gostilnas (inns) or Tourist Info. Some of the best fly -fishing is nearby on the Radovna or Sava Bohinjka. A good hour away is the emerald green River Soca and it joins the Lepenica, where the rare Marble Trout are at their prime. A journey South to the Unec is also worthwhile and for the Sulec, either the Sava Bohinjka or Kolpa are recommended. As an accomplished fisherman, Mark is available for advice and guiding.

There is also a small chalk lake near Mojstrana, where natural springs maintain the water temperature in the summer, to 23 degrees. Somewhat cooler, but less busy is Lake Bohinj, where the reflection of the mountains reminds you of the magnitude of where you are. There is also a small chalk lake near Pr Peku, in the middle of the National Park, that really feels like the perfect place for a picnic and a cool down in the heat of the summer. In Radovljica 20 minutes away, there is an outdoor Olympic sized pool which is open all year, and is covered and heated in the winter. Many of the hotels in Kranjska Gora ad Bled take daily guests to their pools and massage facilities. There is a big aqua park at Bohinj.

Rafting is available locally between Lakes Bled and Bohinj and the emerald green waters of the River Soca come into their own again here. A ride over the Vrsic mountain pass starts the adrenaline rush! The waters are fantastic for rafting and there are many companies locally in Bovec that organise trips, or you can organise a trip through a company in Kranjska Gora or Bled, so all you have to do is turn up and they do the rest!!

Jump, Ride and Abseil waterfalls, with one of the many companies offering a canyoning experience!
