Hiking/walking

Pr Peku benefits from being situated on the edge of both the Triglav National Park in the Julian Alps and the Karawanke mountain range. This provides diverse and extensive walking right from the door. There are many short walks taking in lower pastures and typical “Heidi” scenery, which can be enjoyed with good trainers or soft boots and a lazy picnic. However, for those of you with summits in mind, the choice really is unlimited, from zigzags through forests to summit out on a tri border and take a bite of sandwich in each of Slovenia, Austria and Italy to having experience and using harness and via ferrata clips up limestone peaks which look inaccessible from the bottom. Topping out on “Triglav”, Slovenia’s highest peak at 2864m is an awesome experience. Slovenia also offers an organised Alpine Dom/Koca culture, so if you fancy overnighting in a wooden dom, overlooking nothing but nature, then this can be arranged for you. Many of the ski season cable cars remain open in the summer, enabling a high -level route path, benefiting from awesome views, without too much effort! The high level walking is best from Late June until mid September, unless you are experienced in Winter Skills. Lower level walking will always be accessible and rewarded with cowbells and wild flowers in Spring and Summer, and colours of the Beech, Larch and wood cyclamon in Autumn. The Pericnik Waterfall, one hour up the Vrata Valley, is a must to see at any time of year, but is especially spectacular when frozen in the winter.

Climbing

There are many opportunities for climbing in the Julian Alps with a variety of routes to suit all levels. There is a climbing school nearby at Lake Bohinj and many local guides. In the winter there is also the opportunity to ice climb frozen waterfalls.

Summer Toboggan

There are excellent summer toboggan rides at Kranjska Gora and Bled which take advantage of the ski lifts and are a great way to spend a few exhilarating hours on the mountain in the heat of the summer.

Horse Riding

The stunning scenery around Lake Bled or Bohinj can be appreciated on horse back treks of 2, 4hours or all day, taking in waterfalls, rivers and valleys on either Lipizanner or Icelandic ponies. The Lipizanner horse originated in Slovenia, and a visit to the Lipica Stud is only approximately an hour and a half drive away from Mojstrana.

Golf

Slovenia is not big on golf, but there is a course in Bled and one is being built at Kranjska Gora, for those who just have to have a round!!

Cycling

There are a multitude of trails for the mountain bike, or indeed any bike. From the 17km disused railway line from Mojstrana into Italy, to the Downhill Course at Kranjska Gora Bike Park, accessed from the ski lift, there is huge variety!! Enjoy fast descents, demanding gorges or comfortable forest trails depending on your need for adrenalin!

Paragliding

Several adventure companies offer a paragliding experience, taking in the awesome scenery over Lake Bled. A typical cost is €79 for 2-3 hours course, spending 20-40 minutes in the air.
