Slovenian winter sports include downhill and cross country skiing, snow shoeing and winter walks to suit all abilities (leisurely stroll to ice climbing.) There is organised tobogganing and endless opportunities for local sledging.
Winter fishing is also nearby and the fly-fishing on the rivers here in Slovenia is some of the best in Europe. The rivers are also home to rafting, canoeing and canyoning enthusiasts; all of these activities can be organised locally. Many lakes are also great for swimming and overhead you can often see paragliders making the most of the thermals. There is a superb cycle track all the way from Mojstrana to Kranjska Gora and on over the border into Tarvisio in Italy, along a disused railway line. Slovenians have a great outdoor culture that is then rewarded with plenty of friendly eating and drinking “gostilnas” or mountain “kocas” The village tennis club also has a friendly bar and we can book courts for you.
For those wetter days, there are a variety of water parks and spas. The Karst region is close by and the Postojna or Skocjan caves are both classic examples of limestone caves, which can be seen on either hot or rainy day trips.
The sight-seeing is also plentiful, including the nearby magical lakes of Bled and Bohinj and also gorges and waterfalls. Ljubljana provides a wealth of culture and sights either on foot or by boat from the river, which is lined with traditional and trendy bars and restaurants.
